From Principal Adams: I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I graduated from Oklahoma State University and have been in education for 20 years. I am married and we have one son and one daughter.
I entered the field of education because while I attended high school and college, I lifeguarded at a city pool in the summer, worked at camps, and tutored. I always felt really comfortable working with youth of all ages. Building trust and developing relationships with kids seemed to come quite naturally, and even at a young age, I felt as though there were very few things more rewarding and more important than helping a young person on their path to becoming who it is they were going to be.
I began my career in Edmond as an 8th-grade teacher at Summit in 1998. I taught middle school for 6 years. After earning my Master’s in School Administration, I was offered an assistant principalship at Cimarron Middle School. I spent eight years as an assistant principal at Cimarron. In 2012, I had the opportunity to move into a leadership role at Santa Fe High School. I was the assistant principal of the Freshman Academy a Santa Fe High School for five years. In April of 2017, I accepted the lead principal position at Summit. I feel grateful and honored to lead this amazing school, and I look forward to a long career here.
I am very excited to get back to my middle school roots. I have missed middle school aged students, especially their energy, silliness, and their willingness to try new things. I feel like middle school is a critical age where educators have such an important impact on their students. The thing that I am looking forward to MOST at Summit is working with our teachers to develop a comprehensive middle-level program to meet both the academic and social-emotional needs of our students. I am looking forward to building on the strong tradition of Summit and working to prepare our students to be able to reach all the goals and dreams they have for their future.
There are many things that I like to do outside of work. I love supporting Oklahoma State football and attending games in Stillwater. I also love to run, although I’m at a point now that I don’t run any race over a 5K. Most Sundays I can be found in a basketball gym watching my son play. Finally, I love to travel, cook, and spend time with friends and family!
